About

This blog is a place where I share ideas, experiences, reflections, plans, theories, schemes and speculations about art.  It owes its title to a poem by Dorothy Porter.  Birds (especially parrots and lorikeets) were a recurrent theme in her work. With their raucous voices and irreverent behaviour I often feel these birds are my kin.  I am a visual artist practising mostly in the mediums of printmaking, sculpture and drawing and the blurry places between these mediums.  My art is a conversation with the world and this blog is part of that conversation.

hey there, thought you might be interested to know (if you don’t already) that “a girl mad as birds” is originally from a Dylan Thomas poem “Love in the Asylum”—- “A stranger has come to share my room in/The house not right in the head,/A girl mad as birds…”.

I’m also intrigued that we are both printmakers and bird people, and use a similar image of cockatoos flying on our blogs (I also use it in my etsy shop)! Weird!
